A Year-Long Celebration: Seton Legacy of Charity 1809-2009

On Saturday, March 14 the Sisters of Charity were honored at the 43rd annual St. Patrick Parade in downtown Cincinnati. The parade was dedicated to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati. This year’s theme was “Inspiration Through Leadership and Charity.” Approximately 60-75 individuals walked on behalf of the Sisters of Charity in the parade, including delegates from the College of Mount St. Joseph, Good Samaritan Hospital, SC Ministry Foundation, Holy Family School, St. William School, Resurrection School and St. Bernadette School (Amelia, Ohio). Also participating were busses filled with Sisters of Charity, as well as those from Assisted Living and the Motherhouse, Bayley Place residents and St. Joseph Home residents. The Elder High School band marched and performed; while a flatbed truck carrying singers from Seton and Elder high schools followed.

That afternoon, a special anniversary liturgy was held at the Immaculate Conception Chapel for family members of Sisters of Charity and Associates.  Approximately 500 individuals took part in the Mass and attended the reception immediately following.

Overall the day’s events were huge successes; the representation of Sisters, Associates, family members, friends and business/ministry partners at both was a tribute to the impact the Sisters of Charity have had on their communities, their friends and families throughout the years.
