Hymn to Mother Seton
Chorus
Hail, hail loved Mother Seton
Thy daughters sing to thee.
Hail, hail St. Vincent’s daughter
Resounds o’er land and sea.1
From Convent Halls of Learning
And Parish Schools of Fame,
From Home of sheltered Orphans
Ring praise to they loved name.2
By lowly cot of anguish
And surgeon’s ward of pain,
Are seen thy gentle daughters
Immortal souls to gain.3
In lonely penal prison
In dismal convict cell,
Are seen thy faithful daughters
Of heavenly Hope to tell.4
The sobbing babe deserted
The pitiful insane
The deaf-mute and the sightless
Thy daughters’ care sustain.5
To aid the dying patriot,
They found on battle sod,
Amid the wreck of battle
They fear not who serve God.6
Wher’ere there’s human sorrow
Thy daughters hast with love
Urged by Divine compassion
To guide the soul above.7
O brave and faithful Found!
The mustard seed you’ve sown
A century of service,
A mighty tree has grown!8
The Master’s voice still whispers,
“Leave all to follow Me,
Take up thy cross and follow,
Thy own loved spouse to be.”9
And countless pure-souled maidens
Now follow in thy train,
Forsaking earth’s attractions
The smile of Heaven to gain!10
America in triumph
Writes on her Roll of Fame
In golden deed of Heaven
Loved Mother Seton’s name.From S. Justina Segale’s Santa Marie Journal, J-3, Feb. 24, 1910
