The Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati believe that community grows out of the quality of our relationships. Therefore, we extend relationships to people who actively share our mission and spirit and who wish to associate with the Congregation. This extended Charity community allows for mutual strength, enrichment and support as we strive to live out Gospel values.

Six women made their commitments as Associates in Mission in Spring Hill, Fla., on May 13. Below are parts of their discernment statements and why they requested acceptance as Associates. Perhaps there are women and men in your life who may feel the same way and would like to begin formation. Why not invite them?

“My friend invited me to join the Associates of Charity. I was excited to learn about this Community of the Sisters of Charity. I wanted the opportunity to experience the spirit and mission they have. Her invitation was successful for me because I have found friendship and spiritual and personal growth.”
-Peggy Brockman

“I have things in common with the founder. We were mothers, lost loved ones and enjoyed doing for others. Having worked in nursing homes I received great joy watching the residents do things that they thought they could not do. I make items for cancer patients and preemie babies. I also am an RCIA team member. Having been away from the church for 45 years, it was time to return. God brought me back with a plan I knew nothing about!”
-Leona Davis

“My journey for a life in Christ has led me to attend services at St. Frances Cabrini Church, where I met the most remarkable person named S. Loyola. My respect for her and for the Church is what motivates me to want to give back my time. After learning the history of the Sisters and Associates of Charity, I was inspired by Mother Seton to be of service to others. I want to be a part of this Sister of Charity Community as an Associate. I believe this journey has brought me closer to God.”
-Deborah Garland

“The founders, Elizabeth Seton, Margaret George, Vincent de Paul and Louise de Marillac, were filled with the Holy Spirit. They had determination to help others and be true to their faith. They are an inspiration to all of us. The Sisters of Charity today continue the legacy of teaching charity. The Associates are so welcoming and we have become friends. I feel drawn to the group by the love and care they show for each other. I look forward to learning more and to finding ways for me to take part. I will continue to get to know everyone and be a part of our sisterhood.” -Frances Geronimo

“My experience with the formation phase has been a wonderful gathering of women, learning and praying together. Recently I spent a summer working with our local St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store and I cherish that experience. As we were studying the founders of the Sisters of Charity, St. Vincent de Paul and his love and devotion to the poor really impressed me. Since I came into the Church two years ago I had wanted to surround myself with like-minded people coming together to love and serve the Lord. Because of this I was drawn to the Associates. My open willingness to make a commitment and partnership with the Sisters of Charity will help me reach my goal to help others in need.”
-Darcy Mason-Rivera

“I have asked to become an Associate because I want to make a difference in the lives of those people I meet daily. Having the support and guidance of the community at large and my fellow Associates will assist me in fully appreciating the gifts of others, as well as my own. The example set by the Community founders, and by the Sisters throughout its history, is a constant reminder of the humility and faith that one needs, in order to see past one’s own drives to be able to truly live a life of charity.”
-Nicole Rooney
