Lectio Divina Method: Praying With Scripture
Submitted by Rita Hawk, SCIntroduction: This is a very ancient way of meditating on Sacred Scripture. So often we hear a passage without really hearing. This is a way to let God speak to you personally through the Sacred Word.
1. Read Scripture passage preferably aloud. Focus on a word or phrase which draws and perhaps challenges you.
2. Stay with that word or phrase for sometime--or in a group, share the word, but with no discussion (perhaps repeating it to yourself)
3. Read the passage again. Focus again on a phrase which draws and perhaps challenges you. Perhaps repeat it to yourself. Then try to express why it is touching you. (If in a group, each shares--but there is no discussion--just sharing which would be a sentence or two)
4. Read the same passage a third time. This time reflect on the questions: What is this passage saying about God? What is God calling me to at this time in my life? Try to express this--in writing, in words...what are the feelings you are experiencing? (If in a group, share your insight in a way which you are comfortable.)
5. Close with a prayer of gratitude, praise, petition. and possibly write about the experience if you keep a journal.
