Kicking off the Summer
By Zachary Hacker

S. Patrick Ann O’Connor volunteered at the
St. Dominic parish festival in May.

For most residents of Cincinnati’s west side, parish festivals mark the beginning of summer. Amidst the crowds of people buying bars and bells, putting down bets on Big 6, and throwing softballs at a dunking booth, S. Patrick Ann O’Connor finds an opportunity to stay connected with the St. Dominic parish in Delhi that she taught at and served as principal for 31 years.

“Since I left in 2003 I’ve tried to remain active,” S. Patrick Ann said. Indeed she has, working at the festival every year for the last 20 years, even serving as the co-chair of the event.

“I really believe in the parish and know just how important festivals are to their success,” Sister said. For the most part, S. Patrick Ann has worked at either the Major Award booth or the Bid ‘n Buy. She could be found at this year’s festival, from May 22 to 24, at the Bid ‘n Buy within the crowded St. Dominic gymnasium.

“That area has lots of [down] time, so it’s great because I get the opportunity to see people I know from the parish,” S. Patrick Ann. “I get to catch up on what has happened in my former students’ lives.” After such significant involvement, S. Patrick Ann commonly receives remarks of “you’re still here.”

She certainly is, and S. Patrick Ann foresees many future years of service at the annual St. Dominic festival, as well.
