Sister of Charity of Cincinnati
Presented with Fr. Tom O’Connor “Light of Christ” Award

DELHI TOWNSHIP, OHIO – Sister of Charity of Cincinnati Janet Gildea, M.D., was presented with the Fr. Tom O’Connor “Light of Christ” Award at St. Mary Church, Ft. Wayne, IN on March 17. Sister Gildea is a native of Ft. Wayne. She was unable to attend the ceremony due to recent surgery and fellow Sisters from Cincinnati accepted the award in her absence.

Sister Janet is the medical director of La Clinica Guadalupana, El Paso, TX where she serves the medical, nutritional and spiritual needs of the poor and the handicapped on both sides of the U.S./Mexico border. “She and the other Sisters she serves with minister to homebound adults and children with severe handicaps living in the colonias, groups of shack-like dwellings without running water or electricity,” said James Kress during the awards ceremony.

In addition to her work as a physician, Sister Janet serves as vocations director for the Sisters of Charity and recently completed production of a DVD entitled Extravagant Love – The Vocation of the Sisters of Charity.
