Vincentian Volunteers Make Retreat at Motherhouse

A group of Vincentian volunteers visited the Motherhouse campus this week, getting to know one another and making a retreat together. These young people will be living and working together in Over-the-Rhine, serving the poor in the area, for the coming year. Groups such as this are already ministering in both Denver, Colo., and St. Louis, Mo. The five volunteers, all recent college graduates, will work out of the Bank Street Office of the local St. Vincent DePaul Society. Sisters Mary Ann Humbert and Louise Akers provided input for the group this week; S. Mary Ann offered them an orientation on the spirituality of St. Vincent and S. Louise added a short course on Catholic Social Teaching.

Sisters Nancy Bramlage and Lois Jean Goettke first planted the seed for a volunteer group to minister in Cincinnati two years ago while attending the Vincentian Family Gathering in Indianapolis, Ind. S. Nancy connected with the local Vincentian Society’s office this spring as a volunteer and saw that the hope was becoming a reality.  We wish the volunteers a successful beginning.
