“If God is the center of your
life, no words are necessary.
Your mere presence will
touch hearts.”

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton

“Charity is certainly
greater than any rule.
Moreover, all rules
must lead to charity.”

St. Vincent de Paul

Associate Spotlight – Geri Anderson

Associate Geri Anderson lives in Spring Hill, Fla., with her husband of 49 years, Bob. A member of the Associates in Mission Advisory Commission, Geri made her commitment as an Associate on May 8, 2009.

Tell us a little about yourself.
I am retired but am busier than ever. Bob and I will celebrate our 50th anniversary in June; 32 of those years he has been a permanent deacon. We are very busy with parish work, grandchildren (nine) and I work with formation for new Associates. I have been so privileged to be able to companion 11 Associates in Hernando County, Fla, during the last three years.

I like to read, mostly inspirational books and the Bible. I do a couple Bible studies every year. I knit – a lot of prayer shawls but I also do sweaters and hats for babies of people in need and things for our grandchildren.

How did you become acquainted with the Sisters of Charity?
S. Mary Loyola Mathia is assigned to our parish in Spring Hill (St. Frances Cabrini). It was through my friendship with her that I found out about the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati.

What compelled you to become an Associate in Mission of the Community?
I am a convert since 1971 and St. Elizabeth Seton has always been very special to me. I grew up in Pennsylvania not very far from Emmitsburg, Md. I wanted so to learn more about her and the women who followed her own spirituality.

How do you feel you carry out the spirit of Elizabeth Seton in your daily life?
I haven’t taken on a lot more work in the parish but I do it with a lot more love and patience than I used to. When things begin to bog me down now I just think of all of the hurdles St. Elizabeth went through and appreciate my “much lighter cross.”
