"The greater the work the more
important it is to establish it on
a solid foundation. Thus it will
not only be more perfect; it
will also be more lasting.”

St. Louise de Marillac

“Friendship has the skill and
observation of the best physician,
the diligence and vigilance of the
best nurse and the tenderness
and patience of the best mother.”

Mother Margaret George

When There’s a Will …

As the Sisters of Charity continue removing all furniture and items from Seton Hall on the Motherhouse property, many individuals and organizations have been the grateful recipients of their generosity. With the help of S. Pat Wittberg a group of Cincinnati area volunteers secured beds and bedding, lamps and desks from the building. The donations were then part of a “Reverse Yard Sale” for Guatemalan residents in an apartment complex in Springdale. The sale offered clothing, toys and small furniture items to those who had never experienced such choices and amenities before.

The volunteers working with S. Pat used to greet the buses at the Greyhound station in downtown Cincinnati before repurposing themselves to help immigrants who have settled in the area. Now, instead of offering a hot meal, smile and storybook to a child as they were passing through the area, they are spending their time securing rental trucks, moving furniture, and gathering necessities for our immigrant friends. The joy witnessed by the volunteers as they saw families and their children receive the items was priceless.

It was labor of love and continues as such, showing the newest people to America that even closed borders won’t stop them. There is always a way!
