Women Priority Issue

The United Nations (UN) promotes the participation of women as equal partners with men in achieving sustainable development, peace, security, and full respect for human rights. The empowerment of women continues to be a central feature of the UN’s efforts to address social, economic and political challenges across the globe.

UN Women takes a look at how women are affected by each of the 17 proposed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), international goals to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. UN Women also highlights how women and girls can – and will – be key to achieving each of these goals.

Click the links in the table below to learn why women and girls are affected in each of these areas and how their contributions and leadership are central to finding solutions.
