In 1872, S. Blandina traveled over the Santa Fe Trail to Trinidad in the Colorado Territory and taught at the public school. She returned to Trinidad (1889-’92) to teach at Holy Trinity School.

In 1877, S. Blandina went with her sister, S. Justina Segale, “to see if they could do anything for the poor Italian [immigrants]” in the city of Cincinnati. Together they founded Santa Maria Institute, one of the first Catholic settlement houses in the United States.

1897-1933: S. Blandina was involved in issues such as human trafficking, juvenile delinquency, care for unwed mothers, and establishing outreach centers in Italian neighborhoods. This photo was taken at Santa Maria Institute.

In 1881, S. Blandina went to Albuquerque in the New Mexico Territory where she taught, founded a Wayfarer’s House, and did outreach work with the Native Americans and the poor of the areas.
